Dr Piotr Wcisło with the team of scientists from the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Informatics received a prestigious Award of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding scientific achievements.

The group of scientists from the NCU Institute of Physics: dr Piotr Wcisło; dr Piotr Morzyński; dr Marcin Bober; dr Agata Cygan; dr habil. Daniel Lisak, NCU Prof.; dr habil. Roman Ciuryło, NCU Prof., dr habil. Michał Zawada, NCU Prof. were awarded in the category of basic research. The scientists from the NCU Department of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics were appreciated for their innovative research method which allows for conducting investigations of topological defects of the dark matter with the use of optical atomic clocks. The research involves local observations of optical frequencies, which eliminates the need to develop expensive global experiments. The achievement gives a real chance to detect topological defects of the dark matter, which would be a breakthrough in physics and astronomy.

The ceremony of presenting the Minister's Awards took place on December 11th in the Old Orangery in the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw. Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin awarded 60 representatives of the world of science.
