On 6–7 July, the German Centre for Astrophysics (DZA) and the Institute of Astronomy at Nicolaus Copernicus University (NCU) met for a two-day workshop at the Piwnice Observatory near Toruń, Poland. The workshop marked an important step towards establishing long-term scientific and technical cooperation between the two institutions.

Over the course of the two days, researchers from DZA and NCU presented their ongoing work, exchanged ideas, and explored opportunities for future collaboration. The programme covered topics including radio astronomy, astrophysics, multi-messenger astronomy, science communication, regional networking, and technology development.

The workshop also provided an opportunity to learn more about the research infrastructure of the Institute of Astronomy and discuss how the complementary expertise of both institutions can contribute to future scientific and technological developments. Strengthening partnerships with neighbouring countries is an important part of DZA’s international engagement and helps build a strong research and innovation ecosystem across Europe.

“We are grateful for the warm hospitality and the valuable exchange. We look forward to future collaboration.” says Prof. Dr. Günther Hasinger, Wissenschaftlicher Geschäftsführer of DZA.

” The meeting showed that there are already many common areas of scientific and technical interest, where DZA and IA NCU can start mutual cooperation.” says dr hab. Krzysztof Katarzyński, prof. UMK, Director of the Institute of Astronomy at Nicolaus Copernicus University.

We sincerely thank our colleagues at the Institute of Astronomy at Nicolaus Copernicus University for their warm hospitality and for organizing the workshop. We look forward to continuing the dialogue and further strengthening our collaboration.
