On April 19, 2018, at 12:30 pm, Dr. Karolina Słowik (Institute of Physics) will talk about "Światło w nanoskali" (engl.: light on the nanoscale).
Abstract:
Nanocząstki to drobinki metali o rozmiarach tysięcznej części średnicy ludzkiego włosa. Niczym maleńkie anteny, łączą funkcje odbiorników i nadajników sygnałów. Skupiają światło do obszarów przestrzennych rozmiarów pojedynczych molekuł, albo przesyłają sygnał z molekuły tam, gdzie można go wykryć. Działają rezonansowo: każda nanocząstka, jak witrażowe szkiełko, odpowiada na światło określonej barwy, tzn. odbija je, rozprasza bądź absobruje.
W krótkiej prezentacji przybliżymy właściwości nanocząstek oraz ich obecne i przyszłe zastosowania w technologii, nauce i w życiu codziennym.
The colloquium is organized by the Institute of Physics.
The seminar is part of the action „STEM for girls!”, which was initialized by Prof. Dr. hab. Mirosław Bylicki and Dr. hab. Maria Przybylska in 2010. With the help of the Dean's office, the Faculty of Physics is organizing the event for the ninth time. Its highlight is the „Open Day at the Faculty”. This year, the Faculty will present its various offers of stipends and education. All participants will have the opportunity to talk to students of different STEM fields. Student clubs, PhD students, and staff will organize workshops in physics, astronomy, and robotics. As every year, the Thursday colloquium will be held by a woman in science.
