Department of Automatics and Measurement Systems

The history of technical sciences at the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Informatics dates back to year 2000, when the study program of Technical Physics was first launched. The great popularity of those studies, which was the result of its attractiveness and demand for technical studies graduates in the region resulted in the University’s Authorities making the decision to launch engineering studies in Automation and Robotics. The development of technical sciences has been since the very beginning related to the Department of Technical and Applied Physics, which was at the same time a part of the Institute of Physics. In order to ensure the Staff which would allow for teaching technical sciences, since 2006 intensive promotion of the Department’s young employees to the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences has been conducted. During that period, 11 staff members have received the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences. Their thesis supervisors were professor Marek Zieliński PhD. Eng. (UMK), professor Lech Grzesiak PhD. Eng. (PW), professor Krzysztof Gałkowski PhD. Eng.(UMK) and Doctor Krzysztof Karwowski PhD. Eng. (PG).

By the act of Nicolaus Copernicus University’s Rector from 20 June 2017, on 1 September  2017 the Department of Automatics and Measurement Systems was established as an organizational unit of the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Informatics. The Department consists of two teams: Team of Automatics and Robotics and Team of Metrology and Measurement Systems.

We teach students in the following programs:

  • Automation and Robotics
  • Technical Physics
  • Informatics
