Biomedical Expert

Project LIDER, NCBiR

Postdoctoral or PhD candidate

Expected skills and knowledge:
- fundamental knowledge on functioning of neurons and neural tissue,
- familiarity with experimental methods for detection of neural activity,
- experience in biomedical imaging using microscopy techniques.
Additionally, experience in electrophysiology methods and experience in dissection of insects and preparation of microscopy samples would be appreciated.
Advanced level in written and spoken English communication is required.

Tasks which will be assigned in the LIDER project:
- preparation of samples (neurons partially or completely isolated from the nervous system of American cockroach),
- conducting Optical Coherence Microscopy experiments,
- optimization of experimental procedures in OCM imaging of the neural cells of the American cockroach (including procedures of sample preparations and handling in OCM measurements),
- electrophysiology recordings,
- development of ideas for imaging experiments in neural tissue.

Additionally, the biomedical expert will be responsible for maintaining of the American cockroaches colony, writing publications and participation in national and international conferences.

Position is open for applications

Expected skills and knowledge:
- familiarity with image processing algorithms,
- programming in C++, Mathlab, LabVIEW,
- knowledge/experience in development of image processing software, including edge detection/segmentation methods.
Knowledge in biomedical imaging methods particularly in coherence imaging methods would be appreciated.
Additionally, advanced level in written and spoken English communication is required.

Tasks which will be assigned in the LIDER project:
- development of OCT data processing software,
- development of segmentation software,
- development of mathematical and numerical methods for recognition of functional tissue activity encoded in the interferometric signal (reflectometry methods, phase sensitive methods),
- experiments planning and optimization of imaging methods.

Additionally, the software expert will be responsible for writing publications and participation in national and international conferences.
