In 2010 the European Neural Network Society will offer at least 12 student travel awards of 400 Euro each, for students presenting papers at the 20th International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks ICANN 2010 conference in Thessaloniki, Greece. You do not have to be an ENNS member at the time of your application, but you will become ENNS member for the next year (2011) if your application will be granted. Selection is based on several criteria: reviews of papers, percentage of student contribution, and no more than one stipend per lab. Please complete the award application form (attached here), and send it with your paper and recommendation letter (which should mention your student status) to the ENNS President, adding your name to the front of all files.

The deadline for sending applications is June 15, 2010; results should be announced on this page soon after we get results from reviewers (first days of July, so please do not send any applications in July).

We took into account the evaluation scores, the number of authors, the contribution of applicant, avoided giving more than one grant to the same lab, and giving grants to the same people as the last year. Some applications came much too late and some were incomplete. Out of 34 applications 13 have been chosen. And the winners are (alphabetic order):

  • Braenne Ingrid,
  • Brohan Kevin,
  • Fischer Asja,
  • Karandashev Iakov
  • Matuzevicius Dalius
  • Mazgut Jakub
  • Moioli Renan
  • Papini Tiziano
  • Parviainen Elina
  • Rozado David
  • Sogawa Yashihiro
  • Tzikopoulos Stylianos
  • Voulodimos Athanasios

Congratulations! Please note that you have to be at the ENNS general assembly meeting to receive your grant!

ENNS will also sponsor two registrations of students at the Summer School on Neural Networks (NN2010) that will take place in Porto, Portugal.

In 2009 the European Neural Network Society will offer a minimum of 12 student travel awards of 400 Euro each, for students presenting papers at the ICANN 2009 conference in Cyprus. You do not have to be an ENNS member at the time of your application, but you will become ENNS member for the next year (2010) if your application will be granted. Selection is based on several criteria: reviews of papers, percentage of student contribution, and no more than one stipend per lab.

Please complete the award application form (attached here), and send it to the ENNS President. The deadline for sending applications is April 27, 2009. Late or incomplete applications will not be processed. Information about acceptance or rejection of papers will be sent in early May, and awards should be announced a week after that.

The following documentation should be enclosed in your application:

  • the application form;
  • a copy of the paper;
  • a recommendation letter on official university stationary signed by your supervisor indicating that you are registered on an academic program, for at least 50% of full-time studies.

Please begin all files with your last name. A scan of the recommendation letter is sufficient. If you really cannot email it please send it via regular mail or fax to the current ENNS President.

ENNS Executive Board may also give a cash award for the winner(s) of a competition, or for the best paper to author(s) of a paper that will be considered as outstanding by the majority of the Board members. This year also INNS will give two best student paper awards.

Travel grants and the best paper award will be given at the ENNS General Assembly open meeting on the second day of the conference. Students have to receive their grants personally at that meeting, so please do not miss it!
