Photoacoustics and Photothermal Investigations group

Head: Franciszek Firszt

Equipment and research:

PAS-1000, Pulsed-laser photoacoustics setup to measure rapid volumetric changes that occur in solution on the absorbance of a brief flash of laser light.  This technique is used in a wide variety of research fields, including photosynthesis, visual  pigments and proteins.

Phase Modulation FT-IR-PA Spectral Depth Profiling. Photoacoustic (PA) spectroscopy directly measures a sample’s infrared absorption. Thus the measurement is non-destructive and currently this system is used for analyzing of II-VI binary, ternary and quaternary solid solutions but in general PAS can be used for investigation of solid samples of almost any form and shape.

Photothermal radiometry (PTR) relies on detection of the blackbody radiation from the thermally oscillating surface. It allows for measurement of thermal and electrical properties of semiconductors, such as bulk lifetime, surface recombination velocities and ambipolar diffusivity.
